Kyle Schwarber joins list of elite sluggers with milestone bomb
The slugger hit his 100th home run as a Phillie on Friday night.
Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber didn't waste any time getting the visiting team on the scoreboard on Friday night in San Diego. Leading off in the first inning against Padres starter Joe Musgrove, Schwarber slammed a 2-1 cutter over the right field wall for his seventh home run of the season.
The home run, which left the bat at 107.3 mph and traveled 379 feet, is the 253rd of his career and the 100th of his Phillies career. The milestone Schwarbomb put the designated hitter into some elite company, both in Phillies franchise history and MLB history.
The blast came in what is Schwarber's 342nd game as a Phillie. According to the team, he's the second-fastest to 100 home runs in franchise history.
Can you guess the first? Of course, it's Phillies legend Ryan Howard who accomplished the feat in 325 games.

Not only did Schwarber put his name alongside Howard on Friday, but he also will have his name mentioned with some of the game's legendary power hitters. Per the team's communication department, the last five MLB players before Schwarber to reach 100 home runs with a team in as few games include Howard, Alex Rodriguez (295 games, TEX), Mark McGwire (230 games, STL), Barry Bonds (342 games, SFG) and Cecil Fielder (335 games, DET).
Those are some legendary big boppers that Schwarber is right behind now — even if some of them have asterisks beside their names.
Home run no. 100 as a Phillie ties him with Juan Samuel and puts him one dinger behind Jim Thome. On the season now, through the third inning of Friday's game, the Phillies leadoff hitter is hitting .202 with a .731 OPS, 14 RBI, 19 runs scored, one stolen base and, of course, his seven long balls.
