It looks like the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves will have to wait if they want to get their Saturday night prime time game played today. With another exciting installment of the NL East rivalry on deck, Mother Nature got the jump on both teams on Saturday evening, bringing wet weather into the Atlanta area before the first pitch of the game could get underway. Now, all we can do is wait.
Both teams would like to get this one in the books as soon as possible. Sunday’s series finale already looks to be in jeopardy based on the forecast from The Weather Channel, with storms and heavy rain hitting the area throughout the day.
Phillies-Braves rain delay: Restart time updates for Truist Park, July 6
With the tarp on the field and the originally scheduled 7:15 p.m. ET start time looking impossible, the home team Braves officially announced the rain delay at 7:06 p.m. ET.
The Braves provided a tentative start time of 7:45 p.m. ET, so it shouldnt be too long.
Phillies-Braves rain delay: Phillies looking to take series after winning opener
The Phillies took the series opener 8-6 on Friday night. Aaron Nola won his 10th game of the season and reached a milestone with his 100th career win. He went six innings, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out eight Braves.
With every Phillies batter registering at least one hit, Nola mostly has Trea Turner to thank for the support. Turner stayed hot and swatted a pair of two-run home runs, including a career-long 459-foot blast.
Saturday’s pitching matchup will pit Phillies lefty Ranger Suárez (10-2) against Braves rookie Spencer Schwellenbach (1-4). Luckily they didn’t begin the game so both starters will have a chance to start without having their outings interrupted, hopefully.
