When do the Phillies start their 2025 spring training schedule?
Here are the important dates for the Phillies' 2025 spring training schedule.
It’s time to start planning your next trip to Clearwater, Florida! Late last week, Major League Baseball released the 2025 spring training schedule which is set to kick off next February. The Phillies will once again be playing their games at BayCare Ballpark, their spring training home since 2004.
Spring training play will kick off on Thursday, Feb. 20, 2025, when the Los Angeles Dodgers host the Chicago Cubs in Glendale, Arizona as part of the Cactus League exhibition cycle.
When do the Phillies start their 2025 spring training schedule?
The Phillies are scheduled to open up their spring slate in the Grapefruit League with a matchup against the Detroit Tigers just two days later on Saturday, Feb. 22. Their first home game will take place the following day when the team faces off against the Baltimore Orioles.
The 2025 spring training period will see the second installment of MLB’s Spring Breakout, which will showcase baseball's top prospects in exhibition games. The Phillies will host the Spring Breakout game for the first time when they take on the Pittsburgh Pirates at BayCare Ballpark on March 14.
This follows a road matchup in the inaugural game against the Detroit Tigers this past March. Fans will likely have the chance to see Phillies top prospects in this game including Justin Crawford, Aidan Miller, Andrew Painter and newcomers Dante Nori and Griffin Burkholder.
From Feb. 22 to March 24, the Phillies will play a total of 31 games, including 16 at home. Notable home games include the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Red Sox and the Minnesota Twins. The last chance to see the team before they begin regular season play will be on March 24 against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Following spring training, the Phillies will open up the regular season on March 27 in Washington, D.C., for a three-game set against the Nationals. This will be the first time the divisional rivals have played each other to start the season since 2010 and only the fourth time since 2005.
They will return home to Citizens Bank Park on March 31 when they take on the Colorado Rockies. The last time they faced the Rockies for their home opener was all the way back in 1996 when Sid Fernandez took the mound in a 5-2 loss at Veterans Stadium.
The 2025 spring training schedule will give fans the chance to see the team’s biggest stars and prospects up close and personal as they prepare for the regular season. BayCare Ballpark has a modest capacity of 8,500 spectators including grass seating. Prior to calling BayCare Ballpark their home, the Phillies played their games at Jack Russell Stadium from 1955 through 2003.
Tickets for Phillies spring training are not on sale yet and if last year’s timeline is any indication, fans should expect presales to start in November and any individual game tickets to be available early next January.
While the 2024 season is in full swing and expectations are high for the Phillies, it's not too early to start planning your next getaway to Clearwater to watch the team get ready for another exciting campaign ahead.
