When a player is slumping, it generally calls for some kind of alteration. Maybe it's in their routine. Maybe a change of scenery is necessary. For Alec Bohm, who couldn't have had a worse start to the 2026 season, perhaps the change he needed was a new manager?
We won't get too drastic, but the irony of Bohm succeeding in the first game that Rob Thomson isn't managing makes for quite the eye opener.
In Don Mattingly's debut as Phillies manager, Bohm batted 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. That kind of production from Bohm has been non-existent, but his immediate spark following Thomson's exit should get Philadelphia excited.

It's not just Bohm who was struggling, of course, but his .412 OPS in his first 27 games this season was impossible to overlook. Going into Tuesday's game against the Giants, Bohm had three total extra-base hits on the season. He hadn't produced an RBI in five games. He had one extra-base hit in his prior 16 contests. Bohm also had only three multi-hit games to his name.
But he was locked on Tuesday. Bohm lined a single in his first at-bat, then roped a 103.8 MPH RBI double in the sixth inning. You could see the sigh of relief from Bohm while standing on second base, whose OPS jumped 32 points following his second hit. Citizens Bank Ballpark erupted. They were happy to see their third baseman back in action, which was part of a celebratory 7-0 win in their new manager's debut.
Has the leak been completely patched on Bohm? Probably not. He is far from being dug out from underneath, but having a game like he did in front of the Phillies' crowd on a pivotal night is definitely a great starting point.
We'll keep our fingers crossed for Bohm. Philadelphia is set to face Logan Webb on Wednesday. Bohm is 0-for-8 all-time against the two-time All-Star with two strikeouts. If he can get a hit off Webb, then Phillies fans can really start to get on their feet in excitement for Bohm's near future.
