Nick Castellanos left an indelible mark on Phillies history. His highs highlight some of the Fightin’ Phils’ best moments over the past few seasons.

An ironclad workhorse, Castellanos quickly ingratiated himself into the blue collar mentality that’s become a signature of Phillies’ fandom. Having donned the red pinstripes from 2022-2025, Castellanos became the first player since Jimmy Rollins in 2007 to start all 162 games for the ball club.

That type of workmanship, plus his undeniable love for the game, penchant for the big play in not-so-flattering moments, and short-and-sweet interview style are just some of qualities that made him a fan favorite in Philadelphia.

But his time in Philly wasn't entirely rosy, and with his return to Citizens Bank Park imminent as the Padres visit the Phils, speculation has swirled as to how the fanbase will receive him.

Will Nick Castellanos be cheered or booed by Phillies fans in return to Citizens Bank?

Castellanos' ironman streak lasted until the 2025 season, coming to a screeching halt at 236 games (the second-longest active starts streak at the time, and second in Phils’ history behind Pete Rose's 350).

The moment took place during a mid-June series at Miami whenCastellanos was pulled from the series opener vs. the Marlins for defensive purposes (he generally grades as a below-average defender). Then-manager Rob Thomson expressed disdain over Castellanos’ reaction towards him after pulling him, deeming his comments "inappropriate" before stalling his starts streak the following day.

Later, however, Castellanos added more color to the incident following his February release from the team. With the sides unable to come to an agreement ahead of Philadelphia's first full-squad spring training workout, the Phillies decided to end their relationship prematurely, while still owing him the final $20 million of his five-year, $100 million deal.

In a heartfelt, handwritten letter to the city and its fanbase, Castellanos penned that he’d made a crucial lapse in judgement following his benching.

Dombrowski stated after Castellanos’ release that the ‘Miami incident’ was not the only case that factored into his decision. But violating league policy in such a blatant manner is going to leave a stain, no matter how you shake it.

Still, Castellanos’ passion and love for the game wears itself on his sleeve, even if it can take a negative turn from time to time.

His ironman streak lives in Phillies lore. As does his nifty sliding catch to push Game 1 of the 2022 World Series to extras. His relationship with son Liam became one of the most heartwarming stories in baseball when it went viral.

He had the game-tying HR, and the walk-off hit in Game 2 of the 2024 NLDS vs. the Mets. He had a walk-off sac fly in Game 162 of last year’s regular season, and a massive HR in the 2023 NLDS vs. Atlanta.

He’s been cheered, and jeered by the Philly faithful while wearing their uniform. So, which way will the pendulum tick Tuesday with him in opposing digs? We'd like to bet he'll get a warm welcome. We'll find out soon enough.
