Just over one year after leaving Philadelphia, a former Phillies reliever is on the move once again, this time in a wild turn of events.
On Tuesday, right-handed relief pitcher Seranthony Domínguez was traded from the Baltimore Orioles to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for pitching prospect Juaron Watts-Brown. The trade made headlines around Major League Baseball as Domínguez was traded in the midst of a day-night doubleheader between both teams on Tuesday.

Seranthony Domínguez switches clubhouses after being traded from Orioles to Blue Jays during doubleheader
This wasn’t the only strange set of circumstances surrounding the trade as Watts-Brown was also facing his new club as Baltimore’s Double-A affiliate, the Chesapeake Baysox, were facing off against Toronto’s minor league club, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
Domínguez has had a solid season so far this year as one of a few bright spots for the struggling Orioles bullpen. In 43 games for the Orioles, he pitched to a 2-3 record with a 3.24 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings. After receiving news of the trade, Domínguez made his way to the Blue Jays clubhouse, where he was greeted by his new teammates ahead of the night game at Oriole Park in Baltimore.
He then had to walk past his former teammates as he made his way to the Toronto bullpen in the third inning of the nightcap.

The Blue Jays wasted no time in getting Domínguez on the mound as he pitched a scoreless inning in relief in a 3-2 loss to his former club. He added another scoreless inning on Wednesday and already has four strikeouts as a Blue Jay.
Seranthony Domínguez spent six years in Phillies' bullpen
After signing out of the Dominican Republic in 2012, Domínguez spent the first six seasons of his MLB career with the Phillies, where he compiled a 19-17 record to go along with a 3.55 ERA and 28 saves.
He was a vital part of the 2022 Phillies World Series run alongside the likes of José Alvarado, Brad Hand and Connor Brogdon. Ultimately, the Phillies made the difficult decision to part ways with Domínguez after he struggled to start the 2024 season.
He is the second former Phillies reliever to be traded by the Orioles in the last week after Gregory Soto was traded from Baltimore to the Phillies' rival, the New York Mets. Soto pitched with the Phillies in the 2023 and 2024 seasons after he was originally acquired from the Detroit Tigers.
Watts-Brown reported to the Baysox in Double-A. According to MLB Pipeline, he is the Orioles' No. 8 prospect and is projected to join the big league club in 2026. So far this season, Watts-Brown has pitched well in the minor leagues, as he has posted a 3.54 ERA to go along with 115 strikeouts in 89 innings of work (19 starts).
Domínguez reunites with former Phillies All-Star relief pitcher Jeff Hoffman as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays and will look to add a boost to one of the best teams so far this season in MLB in what will be sure to be a tight AL East race.
