Jake Arrieta makes his Phillies spring training debut Thursday. Here’s how you can watch his first start in a Phillies uniform.

Happy Jake Arrieta day everyone! Thursday marks the first time Jake Arrieta will pitch in a Phillies uniform after signing a three-year, $75 million contract earlier this month as he is set to take on the Detroit Tigers. Granted, it is only a spring training game, but that isn’t going to stop me from getting excited anyway.

The game can be watched on TCN as well as NBC Sports Philadelphia’s website. MLB.tv will also be streaming the game if you have that.

This is the first time Arrieta will pitch in an actual game since winning Chicago’s only game of the National League Championship Series last year. It wouldn’t be surprising if he comes out a little rusty, but at least he is pitching against a team that is expected to be one of the worst in baseball this year.

Arrieta has said he will be ready for the start of the season. This start will go a long way to prove whether or not he is.

Opening Day is one week away, so he may only get one more spring training start before the regular season kicks off. If he does come out in this one looking rusty, he may not get his first start until a week or two into the year.

Here is Philadelphia’s lineup for the game:

More from That Balls Outta Here

  1. SS J.P. Crawford
  2. CF Odubel Herrera
  3. 3B Jesmuel Valentin
  4. 2B Scott Kingery
  5. C Andrew Knapp
  6. DH Nick Williams
  7. RF Pedro Florimon
  8. 1B Adam Rosales
  9. LF Roman Quinn

With Ryan Flaherty being granted his unconditional release Thursday morning, the odds are only looking better for Valentin and Florimon to make the major-league team. Valentin played only second base for most of his minor-league career due to an arm deemed unfit for shortstop or third.

However, the team is still hoping he can play there in a pinch, so they are getting him as much work there as possible.

The odds are also getting more and more likely that Quinn will be on the Opening Day roster as the fifth outfielder. Every day he spends in major-league camp – and every day he spends healthy – makes things look all the better for his chances.
