The Phillies and Major League Baseball announced their special alternate jerseys for various holidays during the 2018 season.

Baseball is not known for their stylistic jerseys, especially compared to other sports like basketball or the NFL’s Color Rush uniforms. However, the Phillies and other teams have started to branch out with their alternates in recent years.

MLB announced each team’s alternate jerseys for 2018 Tuesday. Few deviate far from one of the team’s standard uniforms.

Of course, the first alternate jersey comes on April 15 with Jackie Robinson Day. Each player will wear No. 42 in honor of him. The number will also be on jersey patches, hats, and a special `hoodie. Proceeds from these items sold by the league will be donated to the Jackie Robinson Foundation.

On Mother’s Day this year, Philadelphia will wear their daytime, cream-colored alternate jerseys with a pink ribbon on their chest. Each will wear new pink and blue hats as well as the option for matching pink socks. Each team will use pink equipment like bats, batting gloves, and wristbands as they have since 2006, all in support of breast cancer awareness.

Last year, Philadelphia wore a grey alternate jersey on the road with the team name in pink across the chest. I was really a fan of these jerseys last year and I am surprised they didn’t bring back something similar this year.

During Memorial Day weekend, the team will wear almost the exact same jersey as they did last year, their normal day alternate with the team name in military green. They will wear a black camo hat with a green brim and green camo socks. Five stars will be stitched on the hat, sleeves, and socks of each uniform in honor of the five U.S. military branches.

On Father’s Day, the Phillies will wear their grey road jerseys with a light blue ribbon on their chests. They will wear light blue caps with matching socks. This uniform and other blue gear are in support of prostate cancer awareness.

Philadelphia’s Father’s Day jersey last year may have been my favorite one. The light blue hat and jersey text meshed well with their day alternate jerseys, but the league also decided against those this year.

The last of the club’s series of holiday uniforms will come July 2-4 in honor of Independence Day. Like last year, the text on the jersey will be in red, white, and blue.

This time it will be on the day alternate jersey rather than the standard home jersey. They will wear an all-red cap with a red, white, and blue P along with American flag socks – one red and white striped, the other all blue.

I’m not as impressed with this year’s holiday alternates as I was last year. They don’t deviate much from the team’s regular jerseys as much as I would like. Maybe the Player’s Weekend jerseys will make up for it.
