With the MLB trade deadline fast approaching, Peter Bourjos is a hot name

Phillies young General Manager Matt Klentak has many intriguing trade chips to deal at this months’ trade deadline. One of those is outfielder Peter Bourjos, who brings a unique skill set that could make him a valuable piece for a playoff team.

Earlier this season, I named the Baltimore Orioles as the best fit for Bourjos. The Orioles need speed and defensive replacements for their outfield, both tools Bourjos provides at a reasonable price.

MLB Trade Rumors named Bourjos as a cheap option for the Chicago White Sox, who are in-need of a center fielder after losing Austin Jackson to injury.

Despite Charlie Blackmon and Melvin Upton Jr. being MLBTR’s number one targets for Chicago, Bourjos’s name did make an appearance on the list of possible candidates.

"Other possibilities include Peter Bourjos, who’d provide a nice glove, though it’s fair to wonder whether the South Siders would be better served with a more significant addition."

While everyone knows Peter Bourjos is not an everyday starter, he provides reliable tools off the bench.

Every championship team needs their own Eric Bruntlett/Greg Dobbs/Geoff Jenkins kind of players coming off the bench.

With the Orioles and White Sox being an American League team, they can afford to have more role players on their 25-man roster.

A productive month has made Bourjos even more valuable than before. Over the past 30 days, he is hitting .398, and has forced his way into the Phillies everyday lineup.
