The Clearwater Threshers didn’t need much offense Thursday as their pitching staff shutout the Manatees in a 1-0 victory. Elniery Garcia pitched six innings, allowed four hits, three walks, and struck out five. The Phillies #21 prospect lowered his ERA to 2.08 for Clearwater.

Garcia also picked off two runners over at first base.

The offense centered around top prospects Scott Kingery and Carlos Tocci. The second baseman Kingery had the only multi-hit performance in the park as he went 2-4 with a double and a triple. Outfielder Carlos Tocci drove him in with an RBI single in the first inning, giving Clearwater all the scoring they needed.

The Threshers did strikeout 10 times against Brevard County, who had equally impressive performances from their pitching staff.

Twenty-one year old Tyler Viza (5-2) will pitch for Clearwater tomorrow against the Lakeland Flying Tigers. Viza took the loss in his last outing after allowing five runs off of 10 hits in only two innings against the Tampa Yankees.
