Starting Pitchers

This is Nick Pivetta’s last start in the majors for now with Aaron Nola set to come back from the disabled list on Sunday. He has struggled so far since debuting, posting a 6.14 ERA, 6.52 FIP, 1.909 WHIP, and 27.8% home run per fly ball rate. Pivetta has struck out 22.9% of opposing hitters, but he has struggled with command and gives up hard contact 45.8% of the time. He definitely needs some more time in the minors.

Next: Howie Kendrick still out indefinitely with oblique

Philadelphia gets to face their first lefty of the series in the 26-year old Martin Perez. In his last start against the Padres, he gave up just two runs in 6.1 innings. Perez has given up 21 walks in 44 innings and opposing hitters have a .303 batting average against him. If righties Aaron Altherr and/or Franco are going to have a big day, Thursday will be the day.
