The wait has just about ended: the Philadelphia Phillies' Home Opener is set for this Monday, March 31, 2025. Fans are undoubtedly fired up after the Phillies' Opening Day win in extra innings, and eager to kick off the season at home in Citizens Bank Park.
The predicted high of 75°F for Monday certainly sounds like promising weather in Philadelphia, and fitting for the feel of summer that the start of baseball season always brings.
The weather forecast for the Phillies' Home Opener suddenly looks promising
While the overall Philadelphia weather forecast for Monday didn’t look great originally, things have taken a turn for the better. Things looked doubtful for baseball, with an initial forecast of about a 70 percent chance of rain throughout the day on Monday, and scattered thunderstorms predicted to arrive in the afternoon just in time for the game's 3:05 p.m. ET start time.
Now, with just a 15 percent chance of rain at game time, and thunderstorms possibly arriving around 6 p.m., it looks like the game won’t be postponed. The Phillies have the day off on Tuesday, just in case the Home Opener happens to get rained out, or the forecast reverts to be just as threatening.
And this is not a new occurrence for the Phillies. Fans might remember that last season the Phillies postponed their 2024 Home Opener against the Atlanta Braves due to inclement weather in the forecast, electing instead to move it to the following day.
Funny enough, in 2023 the Phillies' Home Opener against the Cincinnati Reds was also postponed due to a similarly threatening forecast.
With the high spirits that come with the start of the season, it would be nice to say that this trend is some kind of good luck for the Phillies, though it does not seem practical to do so. The team won their 2023 delayed Home Opener but lost in 2024. And regardless, we all know how those seasons ended.
So it's simply looking like classic Philly in March!
Hopefully the forecast holds and the storm arrives later, but if not, fans (the Phanatic included) will come prepared with ponchos and raincoats, and will undoubtedly bring the characteristic Philly-fan energy despite any less-than-ideal weather.
Or perhaps fans will end up waiting just one more day for the long-anticipated Home Opener, and saving their hype for Tuesday instead.
