The Philadelphia Phillies were hoping to continue their winning ways into July on Tuesday in Game 2 of their three-game series against the San Diego Padres. They've won three of their last four and are leading the NL East again. They ended June on a high note, taking Monday's series opener 4-0 at Citizens Bank Park. Unfortunately, the Phillies will have to wait an extra day to try to add another W to the 50 wins they've racked up this season.
With some inclement weather in the Philadelphia area on Tuesday evening, and without an obvious window to get a game in, the Phillies-Padres game has officially been postponed. The game, which originally had a first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET, due to a scheduled postgame fireworks show, will be made up on Wednesday. (Obviously, the fireworks show is also canceled.)
Phillies-Padres game postponement on July 1 rescheduled as split doubleheader
MLB.com's Todd Zolecki gave us the first inclination that the game would be postponed at 3:09 p.m. ET and then was the first to share that the teams will play a split doubleheader on Wednesday.
The Phillies officially announced the postponement well ahead of game time, so fans got plenty of notice. Wednesday's getaway day matinée that was originally scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET will remain the same, while the series finale will start at 6:15 p.m. ET.
Tickets for Tuesday's postponed game will be honored for the second game on Wednesday, and the Xfinity Fireworks Show will run after the second game wraps up.
The good news is that Wednesday's weather looks much better than today's. The Weather Channel is calling for a cloudy afternoon, with the sun breaking through in the evening, with a high of 83 degrees.
It’ll be a split doubleheader on Wednesday.

Phillies-Padres pitching matchups after game postponement
Tuesday's pitching matchup was going to feature Phillies left-hander Cristopher Sánchez, who's 6-2 on the season with a 2.79 ERA, facing former Phillies right-hander Nick Pivetta, who is 8-2 with a 3.36 ERA for the 45-39 Padres. Sánchez will start Game 2 on Wednesday, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer's Scott Lauber.
Wednesday's scheduled starter, rookie Mick Abel, is still lined up to start the 1:05 p.m. ET game. The right-hander is 2-1 with a 3.47 ERA in five MLB starts. He was scheduled to face Padres right-hander Dylan Cease, who's 3-7 with a 4.53 ERA and 117 strikeouts in 91 1/3 innings in 17 starts this year.
When the Padres leave town, the Phillies will welcome the Cincinnati Reds for three games over the July 4th weekend. They'll head out to face the Padres again soon, though, with a West Coast road trip right before the All-Star break.
