Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner possesses special talent when it comes to the game of baseball. His elite bat-to-ball skills paired with his pure athleticism makes him a threatening force to the rest of the league. The speedster has shown continued growth so far in 2025 and has proven that Turner can still hit at an elite level, even in his age-32 season.

Turner is on pace for approximately 206 hits this season, which would be a career high for him. Turner has come close in previous years, but topped out at 194 in 2022 and 195 in 2021. According to Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer, he's made a concerted effort to put the ball in play more (subscription required) and has reaped the rewards from it.

With how he's revamped himself, he now has a chance to go down in history along with some other Phillies greats, per MLB.com's Paul Casella.

His first career 200-hit season would thrust Trea Turner into elite Phillies company

Although what may feel like an arbitrary cutoff when it comes to hit total, 200-hit campaigns remain symbolic and a feat that few players can achieve anymore. The game has changed, but history does not. If Turner can make history and surpass 200 hits for the first time in his 11-year career, he would join Chase Utley (2006), Doug Glanville (1999), Pete Rose (1979) and Jimmy Rollins (2007) as the other Phillies to amass 200 hits in a season.

Turner is also on pace for 44 steals in 2025. If he can manage 200 hits and 40 stolen bases, he would join Rollins' 2007 MVP year as the only time it's occurred in franchise history. No one has come too close when it comes to some of the Phillies' greatest hitters during the 2010s. If there was ever a player who could do it with the modern Phillies squad, it's Turner.

Some Phillies fans had Turner as a dark horse to win the batting title in 2025 and that dream still lives on today. In 51 games so far, he's batting .305/ .363/.437, good for an .800 OPS. His average and OPS rank first and fourth among NL shortstops, respectfully. He also has five home runs and 23 RBIs to his credit.

Turner signed with Philadelphia to make an impact. With him leading off more games, he's had a chance to truly shine as the team's table setter. The 200 hits are doable, and 40 steals isn't impossible, so we'll just have to wait and see what else Turner can accomplish in 2025.
