The Philadelphia Phillies (1-2) rallied for a 5-4 victory on Sunday, which helped to calm fans' concerns following a demoralizing pair of losses to the Atlanta Braves. The Phillies now head into an easier stretch of schedule for the next month.

They begin their quest to keep pace with the Braves in the NL East tonight against the Cincinnati Reds (2-1), who had a winning weekend to begin the season. Last season, the Phillies won the season series 4-3, barely outscoring the Reds 36-35.

Phillies vs. Reds probable pitchers

  • Cristopher Sánchez will start for the Phillies. The 27-year-old left-hander is coming off a surprising 2023 campaign, which saw him post a 3.44 ERA and 1.05 WHIP over 19 games (18 starts). His spring training results weren't great, as he finished Grapefruit League action with an 8.59 ERA and 2.45 WHIP in just 7 1/3 innings. He'll look to get his 2024 regular season off to a better start.
  • Andrew Abbott, 24, counters for the Reds. The young left-hander debuted last season with a 3.87 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 109 1/3 innings over 21 starts. Abbott, the Reds' No. 11 prospect in 2023, features a four-seam fastball that sits 92.7 mph, which he complements with an 86.6 mph changeup, an 82.9 mph sweeper, and an 80.9 mph curveball.
