The Phillies shortstop capped a big turnaround by capturing the weekly honor.

It's been a while, but another Philadelphia Phillies player has been named the National League Player of the Week. With the Phillies mired in a dreadful slump dating back before the All-Star break, none of the players were going to get a sniff of a weekly award.

But after the sudden turnaround this past homestand, one Phillies hitter is being recognized for his efforts at the plate.

Shortstop Trea Turner was announced on Monday as the NL Player of the Week, and deservedly so. He went 10-for-21 for an otherworldly .476 average. He posted a 1.262 OPS with one home run, three doubles and four RBI in his five games. His biggest hit was undoubtedly his walk-off single on Friday night to seal a 3-2 win.

The craziest thing about Turner winning the weekly honor is that he accumulated those stats in four games. He rode the bench for the second game of the Miami Marlins series after going 0-for-4 in the first game of the Phillies' six-game homestand.

After his day off, he looked like the first-half All-Star version of himself. Over the four-game series against the Washington Nationals, Turner slashed an absurd .588/.611/.941.

Up until his four-game outburst against the Nationals, Turner had been slashing .168/.210/.253 since the All-Star break, and his season batting average had dropped below .300. His big series helped boost his season-long numbers, as he's now slashing .311/.356/.486 in 374 plate appearances for the Phillies.

This is Turner's second time winning the award this season. His first time came way back in April when he hit .462 with a 1.251 OPS, one home run, 10 runs scored, four RBI and a stolen base.

The only other Phillies player to win the NL Player of the Week Award this season is third baseman Alec Bohm, who went back-to-back with Turner in April. Bryce Harper hasn't won a Player of the Week award this season but has a pair of Player of the Month Awards already, which he won in May and June.

The Phillies will need Turner to stay hot in the two-hole this week as they travel to Atlanta and Kansas City for some big games.
