The heroes of tomorrow are set for this year's MLB All-Star Futures Game. The yearly contest between the top National and American League prospects is set as rosters for the game were announced on Tuesday.
The Philadelphia Phillies have had a resurgence in their development pool, and a couple of familiar faces will represent the club on Saturday, July 13 at 4:10 p.m. ET in Arlington, Texas.
Phillies' Aidan Miller, Justin Crawford's reaction to Futures Game news is everything
Those faces are none other than MLB Pipeline's No. 28 prospect shortstop Aidan Miller (Phillies No. 2) and No. 56 prospect outfielder Justin Crawford (Phillies No. 3). Both Miller and Crawford found out about their invitation to the Futures Game during a heartwarming meeting with High-A Jersey Shore BlueClaws Manager Greg Brodzinski.
With the youngsters sitting on a couch, expectantly waiting to hear why they had been summoned, Brodzinski started by praising them for how they go about their business.
"It's a pleasure to manage each of you every single day," Brodzinski said. "The work ethic, the preparation and the way that you guys go about your business is as professional as it gets. You play the game the right way, you compete the right way, and you show anybody that comes to watch what its like to be a Philadelphia Phillie.
"You wear the P proud, and I think that shows. And you both are leaders in your own way. It's been amazing to see how you guys can lead by example in what you do on and off the field."
Brodzinski went on to talk about the importance that Aidan Miller, who was recently promoted to Jersey Shore, and Justin Crawford hold in the organization.
"You're the future of our organization, plain and simple," he continued. "And I know that's exciting for me, that's exciting for the rest of the coaches on the staff, exciting for our organization and exciting for the Philadelphia Phillies fans.
"And for me, this is an absolute pleasure that I get to tell you this, but you're both going to represent the Phillies in the Futures Game. So, congratulations on that and I couldn't be more proud of the both of you."
Phillies assistant general manager Preston Mattingly, who oversees the player development system, also joined the meeting via phone to congratulate the now giddy young stars.
"Since the day you guys stepped foot in the Phillies organization, you've been exactly what we want in our players," Mattingly said. "... the preparation, the work ethic, the way you play the game. It's been an honor to watch you play. I mean, we're thrilled, obviously, to have you in our organization.
"And I'm glad the world can see the talent you guys have. So, congrats again. I can't wait to watch the game and watch you guys represent!"
It was a feel-good moment for a couple of the Phillies' rising stars, who are both only 20 and have a few more years before getting the call-up to the majors. The call can't come soon enough, but this is a major step for them to showcase their talent and capture an even bigger audience until they finally make their MLB debuts.
