The Philadelphia Phillies (41-18) take on the St. Louis Cardinals (27-29) in the series finale on Sunday Night Baseball. They're looking for a series sweep and their fourth consecutive win after cruising to a 6-1 victory on Saturday despite a scare to starting pitcher Ranger Suárez.

The lefty took a 106 mph comebacker off his throwing hand in the second inning, but the Phillies dodged a bullet with X-rays coming back negative, per MLB.com's Paul Casella. Suárez might miss his next start, but the Phillies have the perfect replacement waiting in the wings in Spencer Turnbull.

The Phillies' 41st win of the season extended their lead in the NL East to 7.5 games over the Atlanta Braves. It also increased their run differential to +100, the second-highest in the majors behind the New York Yankees' +105.

Phillies vs. Cardinals probable pitchers, June 2

  • Taijuan Walker (3-1) will start Sunday's finale. The right-hander comes in with a 5.51 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP in six starts. He has struggled to find consistency on the mound this season, with opposing batters hitting a beefy .310 against him. His 6.89 K/9 is his lowest since 2018 when he was pitching for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
  • Lance Lynn (2-3) will counter for the Cardinals. The 37-year-old right-hander has made 11 starts with a 3.45 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. He held the Phillies to two unearned runs on one hit and four walks with six strikeouts over five innings when he faced them in St. Louis in April. This is the second season in a row in which Lynn has struggled with walks, posting a 3.61 BB/9 so far.
