The Philadelphia Phillies (31-13) keep rolling and will finish off their four-game home-and-home series with the New York Mets (19-23) on Thursday. The Phillies have taken the first three against their NL East rivals and sit 11.0 games up on the Mets in the division. They also have a 3.0-game cushion over the Atlanta Braves, who lost on Wednesday.

Despite a wet and sloppy start, the Phillies took care of business against the Mets on Wednesday, winning 10-5 to secure Ranger Suárez's eighth win of the season. The lefty went five innings and, despite some troublesome defense, gave up just two unearned runs — his 1.37 ERA is third-best in MLB.

Bryce Harper paced the offense, going 3-for-5 with his 10th home run, a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Spencer Turnbull pitched three innings out of the bullpen, and Seranthony Domínguez needed just four pitches for a much welcomes clean ninth inning.

Phillies vs. Mets probable pitchers, May 16

  • Taijuan Walker (3-0) will make his fourth start of the year. The right-hander's 4.82 ERA is a little unsightly, but in his two May starts, he has a 2.92 ERA, allowing four earned runs in 12 1/3 innings. He has 11 strikeouts and just two walks over that span. Facing the Mets last season, Walker went 1-2 in four starts with a 3.91 ERA, with 14 strikeouts and nine walks in 23 innings.
  • Jose Quintana (1-4) will take the ball for the Mets. The veteran left-hander has a 5.44 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in eight starts this season. After an eight-inning, one-run start against the Cardinals, he has allowed 12 runs on 16 hits in 7 2/3 over his last two outings. Quintana went 0-1 in two starts against the Phillies in 2023. The Phils scored 10 runs (eight earned) on 15 hits in 10 innings against the lefty, but he did strike out 15.
