The Philadelphia Phillies (83-56) continue their six-game road trip with the first of four games against the Miami Marlins (52-87) at loanDepot Park.

The NL East-leading Phillies have returned to their winning ways recently, having won four straight series and 10 of their last 14 games after sweeping a two-game set in Toronto. They still sit 7.0 games ahead of the Atlanta Braves and 7.5 ahead of the New York Mets in the division. Their magic number to clinch the division is down to 17 entering play today.

The Phillies have been a bit banged up recently, with Alec Bohm missing time with a sore hand and Harper leaving Wednesday's game after being hit by a pitch on his left elbow. The good news is that Harper is back in the lineup tonight.

The Marlins come into the series 6-4 in their last 10 games and are coming off a split in their two-game series with the Nationals. The Marlins have played the Phillies tough this season, with the Phils holding a 5-4 edge through the first nine games. This series will be their final meeting of the year.

Phillies vs. Marlins probable pitchers, September 5

  • Ranger Suárez (11-6) will take the ball for the Phillies. The lefty has a 3.02 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 22 starts. After a strong start in his return from the IL against the Royals, Suárez only lasted four innings against the Braves in his last start. He gave up four runs on five hits while striking out six and walking one.
  • Adam Oller (1-1) will start for the Marlins. The 29-year-old right-hander has a 3.31 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in three MLB starts this season. He began the year in Cleveland's system before being released and signing in Miami. Since being called up, Oller has struck out 16 over 16 1/3 innings while walking eight. He shut out the Giants over six innings in his last outing.
