The Philadelphia Phillies (77-54) will try to build on the momentum of Monday's walk-off win when they host the Houston Astros (70-61) for Game 2 on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park.

After the Phillies made a series of roster moves on Monday afternoon, the series opener was a tight affair. The two division leaders went to the 10th locked in a 2-2 tie before Bryce Harper came through with a clutch single to bring home Kyle Schwarber from second base. The 3-2 win marked the Phillies' third in a row and eighth in their last 12 games.

Phillies ace Zack Wheeler didn't have his A stuff but battled through six innings, holding the Astros to two runs on six hits while striking out six and walking two. Unfortunately, he didn't get the win on Monday and remains stuck on 99 career wins.

Orion Kerkering, Jeff Hoffman, Carlos Estévez and Matt Strahm combined for four clean innings in a sign that the bullpen is continuing to right the ship after a tough second half. The relief corps now has a 1.46 ERA since the beginning of their road trip last week.

  • Justin Verlander (3-3) will start for the Astros. The 41-year-old veteran has made just 11 starts this season around spending time on the IL. He has a 3.92 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. This will be Verlander's second start since coming off the IL — he gave up two runs on four hits with six strikeouts in his first start back against the Red Sox.
