The Philadelphia Phillies (44-19) will face the New York Mets (27-35) this weekend in the much-anticipated MLB London Series. The series pits the NL East rivals against each other for two games, with the Mets as the home team in Saturday's opener.
The Phillies flew to London coming off a three-game sweep of the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers. Despite being off for the last two days, the Phils still hold an 8.0-game lead in the NL East.
The Mets are also coming off a series sweep, as they took three in a row against the Washington Nationals before jetting to London. While not as tough an opponent as the Brewers, the Mets will take any positives they can get right now after dropping 16.5 games back of the division-leading Phillies.
Saturday's tilt is sure to be an exciting international showcase, with London Stadium able to hold up to 60,000 fans. The game gets underway at 1:10 p.m. ET (6:10 p.m. BST).
Phillies vs. Mets probable pitchers, June 8
- Ranger Suárez (9-1) takes the mound for the visitors today. The lefty narrowly avoided serious injury after taking a comebacker off his throwing hand in his last start. Luckily, the MLB ERA leader is fine and will put his 1.70 ERA and 0.80 WHIP up against the Mets. Last time Suárez faced New York, he allowed two unearned runs on five hits over five innings while striking out just three batters.
- Sean Manaea (3-2) brings his 3.63 ERA and 1.30 WHIP into Saturday's game. He has made 11 starts this year and has exactly one strikeout per inning. When the 32-year-old left-hander faced the Phillies in May, he held them to one run on four hits with six strikeouts over four innings.
