Coming off a big series win in Los Angeles that saw the Philadelphia Phillies clinch the NL East, taking advantage of a shaky Dodgers bullpen, they get set for their final road series of the 2025 regular season on Friday. To begin their weekend series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Phillies are welcoming back third baseman Alec Bohm.

Ahead of their series opener against the Diamondbacks, the Phillies announced that they had activated Bohm from the 10-day injured list. The corresponding roster move saw infielder Rafael Lantigua optioned back to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Bohm first went on the IL on Sept. 8 along with shortstop Trea Turner, retroactive to Sept. 7, with left shoulder inflammation. The move to shelve Bohm came as a surprise at the time, as our attention was focused on Turner's injured hamstring and there was no prior knowledge of an ailment to the third baseman.

Phillies activate Alec Bohm with hopes he can finish regular season strong

According to MLB.com, Bohm went through a full workout on Sept. 16 at Dodger Stadium. Everything obviously went well as he stayed on track to return to the lineup ahead of this weekend's series in the desert.

Bohm had reportedly been dealing with the shoulder problem for a while before going on the IL. We're not sure when he started feeling the effects of the injury, but a look at his game log might give a better indication. The 29-year-old went on a hot streak in the second half of August with an 11-game hit streak through Aug. 28. Over that span he hit .349 with an .893 OPS, one home run and eight RBIs.

Things got rough after that. From Aug. 29 through Sept. 7 Bohm went 3-for-31 (.097) with nine strikeouts over eight games before the Phillies took him out of action.

Now the Phillies hope he can help lengthen the lineup over the last week of the regular season and take some positive energy into the playoffs. It was just last September that Bohm dealt with a hand injury that caused him to miss time and struggle at the end of the season, which carried over into the playoffs. On the year, Bohm is hitting .272 with a .703 OPS, nine home runs, 51 RBIs and 47 runs scored.

Lantigua, 27, was added to the roster earlier this week when Edmundo Sosa went on the 10-day IL on Tuesday with a groin injury. The second baseman didn't see any game action while on the active roster and will head back to the IronPigs for their final weekend of games. In his first season in the Phillies organization, Lantigua is slashing .232/.359/.333 with seven home runs, 56 RBIs and 17 steals in 124 games.
