The Philadelphia Phillies are roaring toward the end of the regular season and a fourth consecutive playoff appearance. After putting together one heck of a week to bury the New York Mets and all but clinch the National League East, the remaining questions for the Phillies are about the health of their roster with the postseason just two week away.
With shortstop Trea Turner expected back from his hamstring strain before the playoffs, that's one less injury to be concerned about, at least. But the Phillies have also found themselves without third baseman Alec Bohm, utility infielder Edmundo Sosa and, of course, reliever Jordan Romano, in addition to ace Zack Wheeler.
Here's the latest news that we know about some of the injured Phillies.
Phillies News: Zack Wheeler's thoracic outlet syndrome surgery scheduled for next week
We already knew that Wheeler is done for the year. After undergoing a thrombolysis procedure in August to remove a blood clot, he's now scheduled for the surgery to deal with venous thoracic outlet syndrome.
As reported by MLB.com, Wheeler will undergo the surgery on Sept. 23 in St. Louis. There's hope that the 34-year-old right-hander will return to form when he gets back on the mound in 2026, but there's no guarantee. The good news is that the type of thoracic outlet syndrome Wheeler is dealing with has to do with the vein and not the nerve (which can be more challenging to recover from).
Still, there's a six to eight month recovery window, so the Phillies will most likely begin next season without Wheeler in the rotation.
Alec Bohm should rejoin Phillies after minimum stay on IL
On a bit of a brighter note, Bohm is progressing toward a quick return from his stay on the 10-day injured list. He originally went on the IL with left shoulder inflammation on Sept. 8 (along with Turner).
Manager Rob Thomson told the media ahead of Sunday's series finale with the Kansas City Royals that Bohm is expected to return to the lineup after the minimum 10 days. He had already progressed to hitting off the tee and soft toss. After going through a full workout on Monday, he should be activated when the Phillies are in Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks on the weekend.
Phillies left many of their injured at home, but Alec Bohm is here in LA. Full workout today. He’s eligible to return Friday, and that’s very in play. Edmundo Sosa could return Tuesday.

How long Bohm had been dealing with the shoulder issue is unknown, but his September struggles were enough for the Phillies to get him to take a step back. After hitting .283 in 14 August games, Bohm hit just .143 with a .420 OPS in five games in September.
"He's been grinding with this left shoulder for a while now, fighting through it," Thomson said about Bohm's shoulder when he first went on the IL, per MLB.com's Paul Casella. "So we decided to shut this thing down. We expect him to be back in 10 days."
Jordan Romano's injury news worsens, Phillies still want to see him pitch though
Romano, the Phillies' most beleaguered reliever, hasn't had the season in Philadelphia anyone had hoped for. He now finds himself on the 15-day IL and perhaps won't be back this year.
After going on the injured list on Aug. 26 with right middle finger inflammation, Romano had a bullpen session scrapped on Sept. 13. Per Phillies Nation's Ty Daubert, Romano reported neck stiffness and numbness in his finger, which is obviously concerning.
Jordan Romano has a stiff neck and numbness in his finger, so he did not face live hitters today, Rob Thomson said.

Phillies think it’s a nerve issue. They’ll wait until the stiffness subsides, but he’s still going to rehab and try to pitch again this year.
While hearing that Romano is dealing with finger numbness and a possible nerve issue, the biggest surprise is that the Phillies still haven't ruled out Romano from returning this season. This injury situation and his shoddy performance seem like the perfect opportunity for the Phillies to cut bait. There's no way they can take him on the post season roster, right?
