The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl champions. Jalen Hurts and company took down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to end any thoughts of them becoming the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls.

Philadelphia is one of the best sports cities in America. Outsiders may think otherwise because of the fans’ reputation, but there’s no denying their passion for their teams.

The celebration for the Eagles is in full force, but now that the NFL season is over, it’s time to gear up for the Phillies’ 2025 Major League Baseball season.

Phillies have a tough act to follow after Eagles’ Super Bowl win

The Philadelphia Phillies have the roster to compete for a championship, just like the Eagles. Philly sports fans are blessed to have multiple competitive teams because it hasn’t always been that way in the City of Brotherly Love.

The Phillies are coming off a disappointing end to the 2024 season. After an incredible start through the first half of the season, the team collapsed during the second half. They finished with 95 wins, their most since 2011, and the second-best record in baseball behind the 2024 World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Phillies had a 62-34 record heading into the All-Star break. They were dominating opponents and had eight players represented on the All-Star roster. Despite their second-half struggles and 33-33 record, the Phillies still finished the season as NL East champions for the first time in 13 years.

The postseason was unkind to the Phillies. They ran into a red-hot New York Mets team and were eliminated from the playoffs in four games. The Mets outscored them 23-12. The Phillies’ dominant bullpen and most reliable arms fell apart, and the high-profile offense couldn’t get anything going.

The Phillies will look to put the end of the 2024 season behind them and get back on track for the new season. They lost a few faces in free agency, most notably late-inning relievers Jeff Hoffman and Carlos Estévez, but the ball club brought in a few new faces this offseason who should help with some of their issues from a season ago.

Baseball season is a long season. The Philadelphia 76ers are underwhelming this NBA season and are trying to stay alive in the playoff hunt, and the Philadelphia Flyers’ playoff chances are not looking good in the NHL. With the Eagles season over, fans will now shift their attention to the Phillies with World Series aspirations for their team. Maybe the Eagles’ Super Bowl win will motivate and light a fire under this Phillies team whose championship window may be closing.
