The Philadelphia Phillies' 2023 first round pick, Aidan Miller, has been highly touted around baseball since being selected.
In his first full professional season in 2024, the young shortstop progressed through three levels of the minor league system. To this point in the 2025 campaign, Miller has played steadily at Double-A Reading.
Given the fact that Reading's schedule ends a week earlier than Triple-A Lehigh Valley's, the 21-year-old could be in line for a promotion prior to the end of the minor league season.
Red-hot Aidan Miller playing like top prospect Phillies were expecting
Miller's season has been a bit of a roller coaster to this point. He has gone through a few slumps at the plate, however, lately, Reading's shortstop has been scorching hot.
Wednesday night was another dominating performance for the aspiring star. In fact his 3-for-4 game, in which he reached base four times with two doubles and a walk, received notice from MLB.com as he was named one of the top minor league performers for the day by Michael Avallone.
Miller followed up that performance on Thursday going 3-for-5 at the plate. He smashed two home runs — including a 435-foot bomb — and knocked in three runs in an 8-4 victory for the Fightin Phils.

These are just a couple of the many games in which the former first round pick has excelled this month. In August to this point, Miller has slashed .356/.435/.658 posting a 1.093 OPS after failing to finish any other month this year with an OPS over .800. He has also scored 19 runs, hit four home runs, amassed 13 RBIs, and swiped 10 bases.
In fact, Miller has become more of a threat on the base paths than anyone in the organization imagined. This season he has stolen 47 bases so far after taking 23 bags in 2024.
Per Matt Gelb of The Athletic, Phillies director of player development Luke Murton has been taken by surprise (subscription required) at his top prospect's running game this year.
“If you would have told me he was going to be playing shortstop like he’s playing shortstop and running the way he’s running, I would not have made that bet," Murton said, per Gelb. "A lot of it is the culmination of how hard the kid works and how talented he is. He’s just gotten better."
Miller's work ethic has never been in question. He fought off some early struggles when he was first promoted from Single-A to High-A. He has done the same this season.
Is Aidan Miller in line for late-season promotion to Triple-A?
The Phillies prospect is one of the younger players in Double-A this season. After taking some time to adapt to the high level of pitching at this level, Miller's determination is paying off. That is why it wouldn't be a surprise to see the organization attempt to get him some reps at a higher level in Lehigh Valley to end his 2025.
The benefits of a late-season promotion would give Miller a short glimpse at what Triple-A competition is like. He is not ready for the big leagues at this point, but if he can continue to develop and flourish at the different stops in the minors, he may have a shot at a 2026 or 2027 major league debut.
The fact that Miller is improving in almost every facet of the game bodes well for his future. He has learned how to overcome adversity and he has demonstrated the ability to hit, play a solid defensive shortstop, and become a real stolen base threat. Time will tell what comes next for the highly touted prospect.
