Pending free agent Kyle Schwarber will have his share of clubs interested in signing him this offseason. The Philadelphia Phillies' designated hitter would be a fit for six other teams, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Schwarber is having one of the best seasons of his career. With 119 RBIs, he has already surpassed his previous career high, which was 104 in 2023 and 2024. His 49 home runs are also a career best. Philadelphia is one club that will be in the running to offer him a contract, ensuring he doesn't leave the franchise this winter.

Jeff Passan: Six other clubs besides Phillies could be suitors for Kyle Schwarber

Passan included six other teams that could be in the market to add the 32-year-old slugger. The ESPN insider lists the Texas Rangers, San Diego Padres, Houston Astros, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, and one of the Phillies' National League East rivals, the Atlanta Braves, as possible competition to sign Schwarber to an expensive, multi-year deal in the offseason.

Schwarber's recent four-home run barrage on Aug. 28 against the Braves is an example of how he can impact any contest in a big way. If the Phillies win a World Series in 2025, fans can likely expect plenty of "Schwarbombs" to be a reason why the club is victorious in the Fall Classic.

Per Passan, Schwarber is one of the top hitters in MLB with a .393 weighted on-base average (wOBA). He currently leads the NL in home runs and leads the majors in RBI. If the Phillies make it to the NLCS and World Series, he will be a favorite to be the MVP of both playoff rounds should they be victorious in each series.

Passan included a statistic that shows how valuable a hitter Schwarber is to the Phillies. In late or close situations this season he has a 1.221 OPS, which is nearly 100 points higher than the Los Angeles Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani.

The ESPN insider also wrote that it is possible Schwarber could receive a contract offer of four years for at least $30 million per season. His price could go up further the longer the Phillies are in the playoffs and if he plays a significant part in the team's postseason success.

Three of the six teams listed as fits for Schwarber, the Braves, Rangers and Padres, all have openings at designated hitter this offseason. The current players in the DH role for these respective teams are either free agents or have an option in their current contracts.

The Tigers have been using infielder Colt Keith as their designated hitter, so they may be in the hunt to add a more experienced hitter this offseason, such as Schwarber, to fill the role.

The Astros don't seem like a fit with Yordan Alvarez in their lineup. However, Houston's slugger missed 100 games this season with a fractured hand before returning at the end of August. Imagine a lineup with two power hitters such as Alvarez and Schwarber in their lineup. That would be formidable, to say the least.

Schwarber was born in Middletown, Ohio, and could have an interest in playing for the Reds, the team located near his hometown. He has mentioned before the appeal of playing for the team close to where he grew up.

While the Phillies fanbase can't imagine Schwarber hitting for another ball club, the reality is that it is highly possible. As Passan wrote, the slugger will get paid and paid well this winter with a new multi-year contract. There may be a bidding war, and Philadelphia fans will have their fingers crossed that the power hitter remains with the team for a few more years.
