October means two things in Major League Baseball: the playoffs and the beginning of awards season. With the Philadelphia Phillies having been eliminated early from the postseason again, all we have to look forward to now are individual awards. On Wednesday, Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner were named finalists for the prestigious Silver Slugger Award.

Created by Louisville Slugger in 1980 to honor top offensive performances, MLB managers and coaches cast votes for the Silver Slugger for each position in both leagues. As announced by FanSided, Schwarber is a finalist at the designated hitter position while Turner is one of the top three at shortstop in the National League.

Phillies' Kyle Schwarber up against Shohei Ohtani as Silver Slugger finalists

The Phillies have a rich history of Silver Slugger Award winners. Now Schwarber and Turner have a chance to continue that tradition and add two more awards to the list. However, they're going to face some tough competition.

Schwarber is coming off a career year and will be looking to win his second Silver Slugger. He won his first in 2022, his debut season in Philadelphia, as an outfielder. He's up against the Los Angeles Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani and Christian Yelich of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Playing all 162 games in the final season of his four-year deal with the Phillies, Schwarber led the NL with a career-high 56 home runs, just two shy of the Phillies' single-season record holder Ryan Howard's 58. He hit .240 with a .928 OPS and led the majors with 132 RBIs, adding 23 doubles and 10 steals while scoring a career-high 111 runs.

Ohtani is, of course, Ohtani and will be tough to beat. The hands-down NL MVP favorite finished with 55 home runs and 102 RBIs while hitting .282 with an NL-best 1.014 OPS. He also scored a major league-leading 146 runs for the World Series-bound Dodgers.

While he's not the MVP candidate he once was, Yelich had a bounceback year for the MLB-best Brewers after undergoing back surgery in August 2024. This season, he hit .264 with a .795 OPS, with 29 home runs, 103 RBIs and 88 runs, playing more than two thirds of his games as the Brew Crew's designated hitter.

Trea Turner faces tough competition looking for his first Silver Slugger with Phillies

Trea Turner will also be vying for his second career Silver Slugger Award and his first as a Phillie. He last won in 2022 while with the Dodgers. He faces competition from Francisco Lindor of the New York Mets and Geraldo Perdomo of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Turner just put together his best season since joining the Phillies in 2023. He won the NL batting title with a .304 average, posting an .812 OPS with 69 RBIs and 94 runs and 36 stolen bases.

While he hit just 15 home runs, his focus as the Phillies' leadoff hitter was getting on base — his finished with the second-most hits in the NL with 179 in 141 games. If he hadn't been sidelined with his late-season hamstring injury, there's a good chance he would have come close to 200 hits.

Lindor, who Phillies fans are all too familiar with, had another big season for the Mets. He hit .267 with an .811 OPS, gathering 172 hits, 31 home runs, 86 RBIs and 117 runs scored. He led the majors with 732 plate appearances and the NL with 644 at-bats.

Perdomo, a darkhorse MVP candidate, just had a career year in Arizona. The just-turned 26-year-old hit .290 with an .851 OPS, 20 home runs, 100 RBIs and 98 runs scored, all career highs. Playing in 161 games, the D-backs' shortstop compiled 7.0 bWAR, tops in the NL among position players.

The NL Silver Slugger winners will be announced at 6 p.m. ET on Nov. 6 onThe Baseball Insiders live stream on YouTube. Whether either Schwarber or Turner can bring home a Silver Slugger Award for the Phillies remains to be seen. But it's hard to argue against both players being more than deserving of the honor for their impressive 2025 seasons.
