The Philadelphia Phillies already know they have something special in star first baseman Bryce Harper. They were again reminded of that as he surpassed 1,000 career RBIs on Friday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates in an 8-4 win. The feat is one that few major league players achieve in their careers, but defines sustained success.
It's the type of success that Harper envisioned achieving as a member of the Phillies, and it gets him one step closer to his inevitable Hall of Fame induction.
The Hall of Fame is the greatest honor a single player can achieve outside of winning a World Series championship. The accolades, the milestones and the record chasing are what it's all about when it comes to career-defining moments, and Harper continues to carve out his path to eternal glory.

Bryce Harper's 1,000th RBI career milestone reaffirms his Hall of Fame track
With his 1,000th and 1,001st RBIs knocked in on a 3-for-4 night on Friday, he becomes only the 14th player in MLB history to reach 1,000 RBIs, 1,000 runs and 1,000 walks before turning 33, per MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. Harper won't turn 33 until October.
Of the 13 other players to reach that mark, eleven are in the Hall of Fame, with Albert Pujols and Barry Bonds being the exceptions. The Hall of Famers include Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Mel Ott, Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle, Eddie Mathews, Ron Santo, Frank Thomas, Jeff Bagwell and Jim Thome.
Harper always strives to stay on the field and with some of his fluky injuries in the past, it's important to him to be able to accumulate such special achievements in his career. This season hasn't gone the way he's wanted so far, but has found some success as of recently (subscription required), per Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic.
Harper also realizes the significance of the moment and looks forward to what's on the horizon, according to Zolecki.
“Obviously, you always want more,” Harper said, per Zolecki. “There’s a lot of baseball ahead of me, and this team, as well. Obviously, having moments like that are really cool on a personal level. It’s really, really cool to be part of that company, that history. Topper [Phillies manager Rob Thomson] read some names, and just to be part of that is just a really cool moment for me. It’s pretty awesome.”

As a rookie, comparisons were made of Harper and his potential as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft. The next MLB great is what was made of Harper and without hesitation, he set himself up to be one of the best players in the game. As a 19-year-old, he became the youngest position player to play in an All-Star Game en route to his 2012 NL Rookie of the Year Award.
Now 13 years later, Harper is an eight-time All-Star, two-time NL MVP winner, four-time Silver Slugger Award winner and a 2022 NLCS MVP. The major milestones are not easy to come by and take years of work to accomplish. Harper is focused on winning a title for Philadelphia, but in the meantime, Phillies fans will continue to appreciate his reign in the league as the accolades grow until he is not only one of the greatest Phillies of all time, but knocking at the door of the Hall of Fame.
