After three games on the road to open the 2025 season, the Philadelphia Phillies (2-1) host the Colorado Rockies (1-2) for their home opener at Citizens Bank Park on Monday afternoon. The Phillies had a chance for an Opening Weekend sweep on Sunday, but wasted plenty of opportunities to get on the board, going 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and leaving 10 men on base in their 5-1 loss to the Washington Nationals.
Now all eyes in Philadelphia turn to The Bank, and fans are in for some new sights and sounds when they get to the ballpark today. Gates open at 12:35 p.m. ET, with the Opening Ceremony at 2:20 p.m. ET and first pitch set for 3:05 p.m. ET. The initial weather forecast for today looked like the Phillies might have to postpone their home opener for the third year in a row, but Mother Nature wants to see the Phillies play today as much as the fans.
One thing fans won't get to see today is shortstop Trea Turner, who's dealing with lower back spasms that kept him out of the lineup for the previous two games. He'll be held out one more day (subscription required), per The Philadelphia Inquirer's Scott Lauber, with an off day on Tuesday before returning to the lineup for the second game of the series. The good injury news is that catcher J.T. Realmuto is back today after missing Sunday with a bruised left foot.
Phillies vs. Rockies probable pitchers, March 31
- Cristopher Sánchez (0-0) will make his season debut for the Phillies. After a breakout 2024 season, the lefty looked even better in spring training with increased velocity, posting a 1.62 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 19 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings. He faced Colorado twice in 2024, going 1-0, striking out 12 and only allowing two runs despite giving up 13 hits in 11 1/3 innings.
- Germán Márquez (0-0) will counter for the Rockies. The 30-year-old right-hander is entering his 10th MLB season, but only threw four innings last year after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Márquez had a rough spring, posting a 5.74 ERA and 1.72 WHIP, with 10 strikeouts and eight walks in 15 2/3 innings.
