With a 5-1 win on Wednesday, the Philadelphia Phillies (4-1) have won two series in a row to begin the 2025 season. On Thursday afternoon, they'll have a chance to sweep the Colorado Rockies (1-4) before welcoming the undefeated Los Angeles Dodgers to town on the weekend.
The Phillies got another big night at the plate from early-season hero Edmundo Sosa. The "bench player" has been one of MLB's top hitters over the first week of the season, and he came through again with three hits. His biggest was a two-run double in the eighth innings to put the Phillies up 5-1. The Rockies had no chance of coming back from that deficit against José Alvarado in the ninth.
Ace Zack Wheeler dominated Rockies hitters through seven innings, recording 10 strikeouts on an incredible 25 whiffs, per MLB.com's Todd Zolecki. He allowed one run on three hits, with his lone mistake resulting in Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman's second solo home run of the series.
Phillies vs. Rockies probable pitchers, April 3
- Taijuan Walker (0-0) will make his season debut for the Phillies. After a season to forget in 2024, the veteran right-hander will hope to get off to a better start in 2025. His spring training began on a positive note, but devolved with a couple of poor outings, as he finished with a 7.41 ERA in 17 innings. Phillies fans will be anxious to see which version of Walker takes the hill on Thursday.
- Antonio Senzatela (0-0) will take the ball for the Rockies. The 30-year-old right-hander is making his second start of the young season after picking up a no decision in 4 1/3 innings against the Tampa Bay Rays on the weekend. He allowed nine hits and two walks with no strikeouts but kept the Rays from scoring, somehow.
