The Philadelphia Phillies (43-30) and the Miami Marlins (29-42) are set for Game 3 at loanDepot park. After taking the series opener with Orion Kerkering earning his first save in the Phillies' fifth straight win, they dropped Tuesday's uninspiring affair 9-3.
Jesús Luzardo was decent against his former team, but battled control issues and ended up with four walks. He left in the sixth with a 3-2 lead but a pair of runners on base. The bullpen took it from there. Tanner Banks, Joe Ross and Michael Mercado all allowed runs in their single innings of work to seal the Phillies' fate.
The Phils will look to guarantee a split, at the very minimum, of the four-game series on Wednesday. The good news is that Ranger Suárez is back on the bump for the Phillies. The other piece of good news is that Nick Castellanos is back in right field after serving a one-game benching for "inappropriate comments" made to manager Rob Thomson after being pulled in Monday's game.
The New York Mets also lost on Tuesday (to the Atlanta Braves), so the Phillies enter today's matchup still two games back in the NL East.
