The Philadelphia Phillies (6-1) and Los Angeles Dodgers (8-1) are set to square off in the second game of their three-game series at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday afternoon. The Phillies will be attempting to win their third straight series to begin the season and hand the Dodgers their second loss after taking Friday night's opener 3-2.
Phillies starter Jesús Luzardo was masterful in his home debut. He twirled seven shutout innings, racking up 12 whiffs and eight strikeouts on 95 pitches. The lefty allowed just two hits and two walks to one of MLB's most potent lineups.
It was a pitcher's duel with Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the other side. The lone run the Phillies scored off the second-year Dodger came courtesy of some slick base running by Trea Turner. The Phillies tacked on two more runs against reliever Kirby Yates in the seventh to give Jordan Romano a 3-0 cushion in the ninth. He needed it.
Romano looked shaky, issuing a leadoff walk before serving up a two-run homer to Tommy Edman. It turned out okay in the end, thanks to a vintage performance behind the plate from J.T. Realmuto, who registered his third caught stealing to end the game.
Now, the Phillies send Aaron Nola to the hill to battle Roki Sasaki, who's making his third start and first at The Bank. The Phillies come in to today's game 2.0 games up on the New York Mets in the NL East.
