Raise your glasses for Rodolfo Durán. The 28-year-old catcher finally got his name called. The former Phillies prospect spent 11 seasons in the minor leagues and never once sniffed an at-bat in Major League Baseball.

That all changed on May 7. Durán, now with the San Diego Padres, fulfilled a catching vacancy with Luis Campusano (who has dealt with his own struggles) going to the injured list. In his MLB debut, Durán batted ninth against the St. Louis Cardinals and went 0-for-3 with two fly outs and a ground out.

Though he went hitless, all that truly mattered was that he finally played in the big leagues. Phillies fans should be over-the-moon happy for him.

Former Phillies prospect Rodolfo Durán finally tasted MLB action with new team

Durán, who was ranked as Philadelphia's 19th-best prospect in 2019, spent six years in the Phillies' farm before electing free agency in 2021. For those keeping track, Alec Bohm was Philadelphia's top prospect at that time. That's, well, not working out too well at the moment. Durán then made pit stops with the New York Yankees and the Kansas City Royals before signing with San Diego in early 2025.

Durán was never one to consistently impress with the bat, but he hit .288 with Triple-A El Paso last year with 16 home runs, 16 doubles, and two triples. He showed a resurgence at the dish, placing him on the Padres' radar as a potential call-up. They ultimately went with Campusano to begin the season, but his inconsistencies have left much to be desired among Friars fans.

Durán was hitting at a .238 clip in Triple-A before getting called up, but was 6-for-16 in his final few games before the promotion. Maybe he didn't 100 percent earn the promotion just yet. but that's okay. His call-up was more so on a need-a-catcher basis, but when you have sat in the minors for 11 years, you'll take what you can get. Now it's time for him to prove that he belongs in the bigs.

Phillies fans should keep track of his progress, especially since Philadelphia travels to San Diego at the end of the month. Hopefully Durán will still be with the team by then. It will be a great moment for him and the fans.
