Griff McGarry struggled wherever he pitched this year. McGarry, once the third-ranked prospect in the Philadelphia Phillies organization, offered the fans some hope in his return to the club after a brief stint with the Washington Nationals.
But he walked seven batters in four innings, and the Phillies were quick to trade him away. McGarry was dealt to the Los Angeles Dodgers, a team that's found success in developing talent. Unfortunately for McGarry, he seems like one of the few whose career could not be revived by that particular lab.
He capped the 2026 campaign with Triple-A Oklahoma City, boasting a 7.48 ERA and 2.28 WHIP in 27.2 innings. For the full season, which spanned 34 innings and three different teams, he walked 52 batters (one intentionally) and plunked six more.
McGarry will become a free agent this offseason. Now at 27 years old, it will be interesting to see if any teams will take another chance on the right-hander.

Yes, McGarry's numbers are not great. He is no longer a young prospect, and since he has been a pro, he has only trended downward. The Phillies are more than happy to have dodged him long-term, but there might be a team willing to give him one more chance.
McGarry's command is undoubtedly his biggest weakness, but he has shown an ability to miss barrels. Opponents are hitting .184 against him across six pro seasons. His strikeout numbers are consistently strong, too. He fanned 48 batters in 34 innings this year. In 2025, he compiled 124 punch-outs in 83.2 frames, which included three starts of 10 or more strikeouts. There is still some upside.

The Phillies and the Dodgers haven't been able to fully fix him. No harm done there for Philadelphia. They were able to grab more international bonus money in a trade for him. Perhaps another club is willing to give him another shot on the mound as he enters minor league free agency and teeters on obscurity. It would be quite the comeback if anyone can hone in on his strengths.
