Philadelphia Phillies' third baseman Alec Bohm got the chance to show off some power as spring training winds down. In Friday's contest against the Baltimore Orioles, Bohm went 2-for-3 with two runs and four RBI to aid the Phillies 11-8 win. He also smacked two home runs in the high-scoring affair. Bohm will likely hit in the middle of the Phillies' lineup again once the regular season starts, and his recent showing of power could give Phillies fans hope of a real breakthrough before an all-important walk year.
Yes, it's only spring training. But that doesn't mean it's not also a sight for sore eyes.
Bohm has shown flashes of power throughout his six seasons in the big leagues. Given Bohm's massive frame at 6'4 tall, you'd love to have some real power from the hot corner with his size. However, Bohm has struggled to produce that kind of threat in game action, topping out at just 20 home runs back in 2023. He's failed to replicate that kind of pop ever since, but Friday showed what he could be if this surge rolls into the regular season.
Why Phillies fans - and Alec Bohm - both need a breakout 2026 season
Bohm will be a free agent following the 2026 season. It's uncertain if he'll return, with Aidan Miller waiting in the wings, but the Phillies could really maximize Bohm's remaining months in Philadelphia if he crushes the ball like he has in spring training so far.
In his first nine games, Bohm posted a slash line of .375/.385/.833, good for a 1.218 OPS. He also has three home runs with nine RBI as well.

After an All-Star appearance in 2024, Bohm took a slight step back in 2025. He did hit for an average of .287, but only hit 11 home runs and 59 RBI in 120 games. Phillies fans could use a more power-filled Bohm in the lineup. It's not impossible to believe that he could hit 30 home runs for the first time in his career and also give real protection to Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber while hitting cleanup in the lineup.
The Phillies have felt a big bat short the last few seasons. It's bitten them at times during the regular season, but the issue has been more pronounced during the postseason. Bohm has looked great so far in spring training, and perhaps the Phillies have found a new and improved Bohm to capitalize on in 2026.
