Philadelphia Phillies pitchers and catchers reported to spring training on Wednesday, and there were plenty of pitching storylines on Day 1, including the return of Zack Wheeler. But at this time of year, everyone is excited to see the young players, the prospects for whom we've been so eagerly waiting. While not a pitcher, there were plenty of questions about much-hyped prospect Aidan Miller.

The Phillies won't have their first true full-squad workout until Monday, but that didn't stop manager Rob Thomson from having to field questions about his plans for Miller in, well, the field. Miller has been developing as a shortstop since being drafted in the first round in 2023, with his athleticism helping him grow into the position.

However, with Trea Turner at short for the foreseeable future, we've all been wondering where Miller will play when he eventually makes his way to the majors. Now we appear to have the answer, with Thomson telling media on Wednesday that the bulk of Miller's reps this spring will come at third base and shortstop, with some work at second, according to Tim Kelly of On Pattison.

Earlier in the offseason, Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski did say he's open to the 21-year-old taking up second or third base and it looks like third is the first spot they'll try him.

The desire to see Miller at third all but confirms what many had assumed: the Phillies will move on from current third baseman Alec Bohm when he hits free agency next offseason. With Bohm entering his final year under contract, having Miller be able to slide in at the hot corner in 2027 would be an ideal situation.

There's even hope that we'll get to see Miller make his MLB debut later this season. We know that there's no room for him on the infield coming out of camp, but injuries during the season might give him an opening if everything goes well in Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Miller struggled in Double-A Reading to start the 2025 season but turned a corner partway through the summer and finished with a bang in Triple-A. He hit .333 with a 1.032 OPS, one home run and seven steals in eight games with the IronPigs. On the season, Miller hit .264 with an .825, 14 homers and 59 stolen bases in 116 games.

Fans will get their first look at Miller at the hot corner when Grapefruit League action starts in a week and a half. We'll all potentially be watching the Phillies' third baseman of the future.
