The MLB trade deadline is always fun to follow, while some deals turn out great for organizations, while some, on the other hand, really hurt years later, watching different players turn into stars. Over the last several years, as the Phillies have become contenders, there has been a list of former prospects who have been dealt away who are off to a great 2025 campaign.

It is time to look at some of those trades and where some former Phillies prospects stand today. As the season progresses, these four names will be something to keep an eye on, as well as the progression of how these trades finalize in the Phillies or other teams' favor.

4 former Phillies prospects who are thriving in their new homes

Logan O'Hoppe, C

Former Phillies catching prospect Logan O'Hoppe is off to a hot start with the Los Angeles Angels in the 2025 season. After being dealt at the 2022 trade deadline for Brandon Marsh, O’Hoppe has found the full-time starting catching job this season. After battling injuries in late August 2023 on the 60-day injured list, he was ready for his Opening Day roster spot.

O'Hoppe has taken full advantage of the opportunity. In 31 games played, he's slashing .284/.319/.541 and has already hit nine home runs and driven in 17 runs. His numbers sit at the top among other catchers in the game. He's second in home runs, batting average, slugging percentage and OPS.

With Brandon Marsh’s struggles to start the 2025 season, it's fair to say the Angels are the winners of the trade to this point of the deal, especially with J.T. Realmuto in a contract season and the backup catcher role continuing to underperform. Depending on how the catcher situation continues to develop with the Phillies, this deal could make Phillies fans unhappy for a long time as O’Hoppe continues to make a statement in the big leagues.

William Bergolla, INF

Middle infielder William Bergolla was traded at the deadline during the 2024 season for left-handed pitcher Tanner Banks. He has gotten off to a fast start in the Chicago White Sox farm system, starting the year in Double-A, his highest level. He is off to an excellent start for the Birmingham Barons. The former Phillies prospect is slashing .306/.376/.367 in 26 games, and has showcased his speed early in the season with 12 stolen bases.

He is the son of former MLB player William Bergolla, who spent one season in the majors and had a 10-year minor league career. Bergolla sits at No. 15 in the White Sox prospect list. This move is easier to accept, unlike the O’Hoppe deal, as Banks is off to a good start in 2025, posting a 4.41 ERA in 15 games with 19 strikeouts in 16 1/3 innings. At 20 years old, Bergolla is probably at least a year from making his MLB debut, as his expected arrival is 2026.

George Klassen, RHP

Right-hander George Klassen is off to a strong campaign in 2025 with the Rocket City Trash Pandas, the Double-A affiliate for the Angels. The 23-year-old was a non-roster invitee to spring training this season for his shot at the big league club.

The Phillies moved on from Klassen in July 2024 in a trade deadline deal for Carlos Estévez. He has started in six games this season, posting an ERA of 3.86 in 25 2/3 innings of work. Klassen has struck out 34 hitters in those innings. His expected arrival with the big league club is 2026 while currently sitting No. 3 in the Angels' MLB Pipeline prospect rankings.

Klassen made the jump to Double-A at the end of the 2024 season, and his fast start is a significant improvement from his performance a season ago. He made seven Double-A starts in 2024, posting a 5.65 ERA. He seems to have figured something out in the offseason, and is someone to watch as the season progresses. Estévez left the Phillies in free agency for the Kansas City Royals, so after a short stint with the Phillies and the Angels, acquiring Klassen along with the next pitcher on this list could give the Angels the win in this deal.

Sam Aldegheri, LHP

Sam Aldegheri was the second prospect in the trade for Estévez. After being traded to the Angels, he became the No. 5 prospect in their farm system, joining Klassen in the organization's top five. Aldegheri has already seen time in the MLB after a call-up on Aug. 30 before landing on the 15-day injured list. He pitched in three MLB games with 13 innings thrown. He posted a 4.85 ERA in that period.

Aldegheri opened the 2025 season with the Trash Pandas in Double-A. To start the season, he has a 4.09 ERA in six games, with a 1-2 record. He'll be another former Phillies prospect to watch this season, to note if he gets another crack at the MLB level at some point. He spent three full seasons in the Phillies farm system after signing with the organization back in 2021 out of Italy as a 19-year-old.
