This may be Nick Williams’ swan song with the Phillies

It doesn’t seem very likely that Nick Williams will make the Opening Day Roster. But, with the DH being an extra bat in the lineup, Williams could very well find his way onto the taxi-squad and the game day roster. He has struggled throughout his career, but also shown very good pop. He is also a left-handed bat, which is always nice to have, and possesses solid speed.

If Williams does not crack the Opening Day Roster, I would believe he is the next outfielder up. As mentioned earlier, the Phillies have had injuries within that position. His competition — Kyle Garlick and Mike Mahtook — has also under performed, but lack the same experience as Williams.

It is expected that Jay Bruce is the DH for Opening Day. Whoever is not starting in CF will also be on the bench, whether it is Roman Quinn or Adam Haseley. Neil Walker, who has played corner OF positions, will also be on the opening day roster. Josh Harrison is another utility player who has gone all over the field — ranging from the middle infield to both Left and Right Field.

If given the opportunity, Williams crushes divisional opponents with is huge for this upcoming season. He hits .309 against the Marlins, .298 vs the Nationals, and .296  vs the Mets.

I have a feeling Williams will get a chance to show what he’s made of again this year, getting some at bats within the shortened season. But, if Joe Giradi and hitting coach Joe Dillon do not get through to him, it may be his last year in a Phillies uniform.
