Five things learned about the Phillies after yet another series loss

When Asdrubal Cabrera does hit, it matters
Asdrubal Cabrera has not lived up to expectations since being traded to the Phillies. In 32 games with the Phillies, he has 27 hits in 32 games with a .223 batting average. He has now piled up almost as many strikeouts (30) as walks and hits combined (32). This has been a sharp drop off from his production as a Met earlier this year.
However, one thing Cabrera has done often as a Phillie is come up in the clutch. He hit his third home run in Philadelphia Friday night for a walk-off win. They stole a win from the Cubs when they definitely didn’t deserve it thanks to one swing by Cabrera. It wasn’t the first time Cabrera changed the course of a game with a home run either. Aug. 5 against the Marlins, Cabrera broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
At the same time, there have been several occasions where Cabrera fails to convert on opportunities to score. He left seven runners on base during the series, including one on Friday night before his walk-off home run. It’s hard to single him out for doing it when the entire team has, though.
In the times when Cabrera does come up with a hit, especially a home run, he finds a way to do it at the most opportune times.
