A major piece of the Phillies offense is down for a while

Recently acquired first baseman Justin Bour and reliever Edubray Ramos have been placed on the 10-day disabled list by the Phillies Tuesday morning. Bour was diagnosed with a left oblique strain, and Ramos is dealing with a blister.

Recently-acquired reliever Luis Avilan and Andrew Knapp were added to the 25-man roster. Avilan has held lefties to a .214 batting average this year as a member of the White Sox, and was acquired for a non-top-30 prospect on Wednesday.

Ramos had a 1.31 ERA through the month of June, but has slipped in his last nine appearances this summer while dealing with injuries. Perhaps the blister is a big reason why.

Bour told reporters that he felt the injury on his final swing of Wednesday’s game after a two-hit performance.

Knapp was seen in the Phillies clubhouse before Tuesday’s game in Washington, drawing speculation that Wilson Ramos would miss time with a wrist injury. Instead, he replaces Bour on the bench, a major downgrade considering Bour’s success in place of Carlos Santana.

After a fairly quiet season on the injury front the Phillies have been plagued by the injury bug as of late. Relievers Austin Davis and Aaron Loup were recently shelved, and Pedro Florimon is working back from a broken foot. Jerad Eickhoff has missed the entire season rehabbing from numbness in his pitching fingers, and shortstop J.P. Crawford hasn’t been healthy most of the year.

Hopefully, Bour can be back for the final week of the season against Atlanta and hopefully a playoff series. In three starts he has two multi-hit games, although he hasn’t been as impactful off the bench going 1-7 with two walks.
