Here’s the latest Phillies rumor surrounding Manny Machado

As the All-Star game arrives, the latest Phillies rumor is that a team has a deal in place for Manny Machado.

Jayson Stark said this yesterday, which we reported on, and now ESPN has confirmed through sources that the Orioles have a deal in place involving their All-Star shortstop.

The deal won’t go through until after the All-Star game so Machado can represent the Orioles one last time, but reports say the Orioles and a team are going through the paperwork.

Last night Jon Morosi of MLB.com also reported that Phillies number two prospect, pitcher Adonis Medina, would be available in a trade, and that he is coveted by Baltimore.

More from Phillies Rumors

There’s no official confirmation that the Phillies have landed Machado, but all signs are pointing in that direction. Between the Stark report on Monday and the reports that emerged early Tuesday morning, the chips feel to be falling in Philadelphia’s favor.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers have been connected to Machado, but no strong specifics have been connected to Milwaukee in terms of prospects. Los Angeles has had some rumor momentum in recent days regarding some of their top prospects.

ESPN’s Buster Olney reported last week that the Orioles were looking at several Phillies prospects, including Medina, pitcher Franklyn Kilome, outfielder Jhailyn Ortiz and shortstop Arquimedes Gamboa.

Personally, I never wanted to give up a major haul of prospects for a rental, but this situation feels different considering the type of player the Phillies would be adding to their first place ballclub.

It feels like everything is shifting in the Phillies favor with this deal, but we won’t know until, at the very earliest, after the final pitch of the All-Star game is thrown Tuesday night.
