Which young Phillies prospects could be on the move in the next two weeks?

After appearing to be out of the Manny Machado sweepstakes, the Phillies appear to not only be in the mix, but at the front of the pack.

Thanks to a deep farm system the organization could have the upper hand in landing the All-Star shortstop. Friday night it was reported Philadelphia upped their offer, and now we know some of the names who could be involved in a potential deal.

ESPN’s Buster Olney reported Saturday evening the Orioles have scouts evaluating several of Philadelphia’s top prospects. While top prospect Sixto Sanchez appears to be out of the question in a deal for Machado, many of the organization’s top prospects are in play.

More from Phillies Rumors

Olney reports that Franklyn Kilome, Jhaylin Ortiz, Arquimedes Gamboa, and Adonis Medina are in the center of trade talks and are under the watchful eyes of the Orioles front office.

Third baseman Maikel Franco, who is hitting .359 in the month of July, was mentioned as an interesting piece to watch.

All four of the players mentioned by Olney are among the Phillies top-eight prospects, per MLB Pipeline, and none are playing above Double-A. None of the players are over 23, and Gamboa is still just 19-years-old.

If Philadelphia can get Machado for the long-term, the organization wouldn’t have any use for the young shortstop Gamboa down the road.

It’s a tough decision for the organization to make, and fans seem to be split over whether to get Machado now or wait until the offseason when he’s a free agent and save the prospects for the future.

Either way, adding an impact bat like Machado to the middle of the lineup could make Philadelphia pennant contenders once again and open a window that’s been sealed shut for six years.
