Phillies promote 1st rounder Adam Haseley to Double-A Reading
The Phillies 2017 first round pick is a quick mover through the system
Phillies 2017 first round pick Adam Haseley was promoted to Double-A Reading on Tuesday evening.
Jay Floyd of PhoulBallz first reported the chatter surrounding Haseley, and the news was later confirmed with the roster move on the team’s website.
Haseley was projected to move fast through the organization after being drafted out of the University of Virginia with the eighth overall pick last year. Still, just 22-years-old, his rise through the organization is impressive.
After starting last year with three games in rookie ball, Haseley played for Short-Season Williamsport and Single-A Lakewood, hitting .284 in his first 58 professional games.
This year with Advanced-A Clearwater Haseley hit .300/.343/.415 with 13 doubles, five triples, and five home runs.

It’s unclear who loses playing time in Reading with Haseley arriving, but it doesn’t spell well for 2015 first round pick Cornelius Randolph, who is looking more and more like a bust. The 21-year-old is hitting .217 this year, although he’s hitting over .400 in his last 10 games.
Jan Hernandez and Jiandido Tromp are the other two outfielders in Reading, while Zach Coppola is on the disabled list.
Haseley’s advanced is what swayed the Phillies to selected him eighth overall last year with the hopes he could partner with Mickey Moniak, the first overall pick from 2016 taken out of high school.
Moniak, 20, is continuing to work his way through the minor leagues after drawing comparisons to Christian Yelich as a teenager. After a midseason hot streak, Moniak missed time with wisdom teeth surgery, and hasn’t found his stroke lately.
Through 69 games with Clearwater this year Moniak is hitting .240, not as consistent as the Phillies hoped when they took him number one overall. Again, he’s 20-years-old and only two years into his professional career with coaches and a training program.

Perhaps Haseley is one of the corner outfielders of the future Philadelphia has been waiting for.
