The Philadelphia Phillies took Game Two of the four-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates with a final score of 2-1.

For the first time since 1981, the Phillies advance to a 7-1 record this season at Citizens Bank Park thanks to a victory tonight against the Bucs.

After five scoreless innings of baseball, the Pirates scored first in the top of the sixth inning when Jordy Mercer hit a sac fly to right field to give the Bucs a late 1-0 lead.

However, that lead didn’t last long as the Phillies struck back in the bottom of the inning thanks to a Rhys Hoskins force out RBI. Soon thereafter, in the bottom of the eighth inning, Odubel Herrera followed up with an RBI triple.

After the game, Herrera said that the atmosphere in the clubhouse is different compared to the last few years: [quote via Scott Lauber of Philly.com]

“You can definitely feel a different vibe,” Herrera said through a team translator. “There’s a positive vibe going on. I don’t know what it is, but from spring training we’ve been feeling that way. There’s chemistry in the clubhouse. We all help each other, we support each other, and that’s really what you want in a winning team.”

Cesar Hernandez, Carlos Santana, Herrera, and Maikel Franco were the only Phillies’ with a hit in the game, as the Phillies totaled eight hits.

Ben Lively had himself one heck of a night. He went six innings and only allowed one run – which would end up being the Pirates only run. He walked three while striking out four.

Lively told reporters after the game that his grandfather texted him earlier during the week telling him that Lively was rushing through his delivery. He followed his grandfather’s advice, slowing down on the mound. It showed with a strong start.

With tonight’s win, they are now in second place and just one and a half games behind the New York Mets. They also hold the first NL wild-card spot as it stands now.
