Phillies: Rhys Hoskins becoming Philadelphia’s newest superstar
Phillies slugger Rhys Hoskins is feeling the love in Philadelphia
Philadelphia went into a fit of hysteria Thursday afternoon when Phillies rookie Rhys Hoskins launched a hanging curveball into the stratosphere against Miami. Just his eighth home run in 15 major league games, Hoskins is winning over the City of Brotherly Love.
For a team desperately needing the smallest spark, Hoskins has been a lightning bolt at the plate. He’s pried the first base job away from Tommy Joseph, who also hit a long home run in Thursday’s loss.
At just 24-years-old Hoskins is developing into a fan favorite on the Phil’s roster. His fame at the park and on social media is slowly pushing him into the realm of stars in Philly. He’s not Joel Embiid, Claud Giroux or Carson Wentz, at least not yet, but he’s inching closer to that echelon of talent.

Only time will tell if Hoskins can sustain his torrid pace, but with more video available for opposing pitchers it’s unlikely to happen. Regardless, Hoskins is must-watch television in Philadelphia and could begin to draw people back to the ballpark.
Hoskins joined Carlos Delgado and Trey Mancini as the only players to hit at-least eight home runs in their first 50 plate appearances. He’s also among a minute set of players to hit eight home runs in his first 15 games, joining Delgado and Rockies shortstop Trevor Story.

It’ll be impossible for manager Pete Mackanin to take the red-hot Hoskins off the field with the ability to play left and first base. Having Aaron Altherr and Odubel Herrera out with hamstring injuries gives the righty even more opportunities to put on a show in “the show.”
