Phillies fans have locked in on the prospects working their way through the minor leagues, but could they be seeking fool’s gold?

Baseball America released their midseason prospect rankings, and they did not favor the Phillies young players this time around.

Despite having players quickly rising through the organization and captivating the fanbase, no players are ranked as a top 40 prospect.

In fact, of the seven players named in the top-100, only two are above the Mendoza line.

Philadelphia’s top rated prospect is Mickey Moniak, last year’s number one overall pick. After starting the season as Baseball America’s 13th-overall prospect Moniak has fallen to 46th on the list.

Sitting directly behind the young outfielder is pitcher Sixto Sanchez, one of the few Phillies prospects that rose in the midseason rankings. Sanchez, now believed to be the organization’s top pitching prospect, went from 61st to 47th in the rankings.

Making his first appearance on the top 100 prospects list is Scott Kingery thanks to his terrific performances in Reading and Lehigh Valley. Going from an unranked prospect to 52nd on the list Kingery takes the biggest jump among Philadelphia prospects.

Rhys Hoskins, who’ll join Kingery at the Futures Game during the All-Star break, rose more than 20 spots to his new home as the 69th ranked prospect in baseball.

Most concerning, however, is the rapid decline of J.P. Crawford and Jorge Alfaro among national talent evaluators. Crawford dips from being the 19th overall prospect, according to Baseball America, to 92nd in the sport. That’s an incredible decline for a player once compared to Jimmy Rollins, and believed to be the savior of Philadelphia baseball in the near future.

Alfaro’s drop is also concerning, and likely due to his low on-base percentage and walks. A centerpiece in the Cole Hamels trade with Texas, Alfaro drops from 32nd to 81st in the rankings.

Finally rounding out the Phillies prospects in the top 100 players is eighth overall pick Adam Haseley, who is quickly rising in the organization. After collecting seven hits in three games in the Gulf Coast rookie league Haseley has continued to hit for Short-Season Williamsport with 11 hits in seven games.

Not on the list are pitchers Franklyn Kilome and Kevin Gowdy, both ranked in the top 10 among Phillies prospects, and outfielders Dylan Cozens and Cornelius Randolph.
