Threshers Trounce Dunedin

RHP Colin Kleven put together his best performance of the season so far as he led the Clearwater Threshers, the Phillies High-A minor league club, to an 8-1 win over the rival Dunedin Blue Jays.

Kleven had a dominating performance on mound for Clearwater Thershers

Catcher Willians Astudillo and first baseman Zach Green each had a pair of RBI to pace the Threshers offensive attack.

Also important to the victory on the offensive side of things were three base hits from both 2nd baseman Drew Stankiewicz and center fielder Chase Harris.

Another key to the game besides the strong offensive outburst by the Threshers was the stellar performance of Kleven on the mound. He was strong over his six innings, and had a no-hitter going for the first 4 2/3 of those frames.

In all, Kleven held the Jays to a run on three hits over six innings while striking out six.

Coming on in relief for the seventh was LHP Harold Guerrero, who pitched two innings with two strike outs, two hits and no runs. Will Morris, another LHP, came in to close things out in the ninth, surrendering one hit and registering one strike out.

With the victory, the Threshers are now at one game over .500 with an 11-10 record, good for 3rd place in the North Division of the Florida State League. They are 2 1/2 games behind the division-leading Daytona Tortugas, farm club to the Cincinnati Reds. Dunedin dropped to 9-12 and 5th place in the division.

The same two teams will be getting pretty familiar with one another. They meet again in Dunedin on Friday night, with David Whitehead taking the mound for the Threshers, and then will both come to Clearwater for a pair of games at Bright House Field on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.
