Bastardo Joins Ibanez and Co. On the DL

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

It appeared on Sunday that rookie pitcher Antonio Bastardo might only miss his start on Wednesday. Well, now the Philadelphia Phillies have placed the young fireballer on the Disabled List. He will join Raul Ibanez, Clay Condrey, Scott Eyre, and Brett Myers on the Disabled List.
In his place, the Phillies have called up pitcher Sergio Escalona yet again. Cole Hamels will pitch in his place on Wednesday, and J.A. Happ will pitch on Thursday.
Also, it appears that Raul Ibanez will most likely not come off of the DL on schedule this Friday. The Phillies have decided to keep him on [...]

One Last Thing For Billy Mays

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Billy Mays, please don’t go yet! The Philadelphia Phillies still need you! In order for them to repeat as World Champions, they need you to sell something, for old times sake. Here’s the deal.
The Phillies have a couple of problems that desperately need solving. For one, they need an “A-list starter” in Charlie Manuels words. To add to the wish list is a quality reliever that can be relied upon to eat up innings, and throw strikes.
With the skipper calling for some team needs, the general manager, Ruben Amaro Jr. is on the fence about the subject. Amaro has taken [...]

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Last week That Balls Outta Here interviewed Dan T. from Tomahawk Take, the Atlanta Braves site. This week features Michael Jong of Marlin Maniac, the Florida Marlins site. Here is his take on how the Marlins got off to such a fast start, and what went wrong shortly after, and many other key facts that the fans should know about their division rival.
TBOH: What was the key to the Marlins fast start?
MM: There were two major factors in that ridiculously fast start by the Fish. One was starting pitching, and the other was the Nationals. We did take two out [...]

Various Pitching Loose Ends

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hey Phillies fans. Remember when our hearts were broken when we learned that bullpen stud J.C. Romero would be suspended 50 games for testing positive for steroids? Well, it seems that his heart was broken too!
This week during the Tampa Bay series, a Phillies player got into an altercation with a Rays fan. Both the Phillies and the Rays confirmed this news, but did not disclose which Phillie it was.
We now know that Romero was the one who showed an opposing fan what was up. The reason for the altercation was that the fan supposedly was taunting Romero about steroids.
Can [...]

Phillies Turning Into the New Michael Jackson

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

With the tragic death of the King of Pop Michael Jackson now comes some comparisons to the man in the world of sports. Most will be good comparisons, some will be a blemish to MJ’s name. This one will be considered by most to be the comparison to Jackson that no body wanted to remember Michael for. The end of his career, and all of the bad publicity that he got towards the end.
In the last two years, the Philadelphia Phillies can be considered one of the best teams in the world of baseball. After all, they did win the [...]

Around the Division: Atlanta Braves

AUTHOR: branthoughton | IN: PHI Phillies | COMMENTS: None Yet

Last week, That Balls Outta Here started a segment that has now been named: Around the Division. Last week featured TBOH interviewing Milo Taibi, from Rising Apple, the New York Mets blog. This week will feature Dan T, from Tomahawk Take, and his thoughts on the Braves, and Phillies. Let’s get it started!
TBOH: How have the recent moves affected the Braves everyday play?
TT:  Not much. The Braves got a decent center fielder and former All Star, but he’s still a guy who to date has had one good year. Nate McClouth was the best available at the time and he should be a decent fit for [...]
