The Philadelphia Phillies have multiple top prospects knocking on the door of the big leagues. Andrew Painter made his first career start in Triple-A as he rehabs from Tommy John surgery, Justin Crawford is batting .318 in his first full season with the IronPigs and Mick Abel is having a bounce-back season in Lehigh Valley.
Aidan Miller, the Phillies’ top positional prospect, hasn’t had quite the success as his counterparts through the early parts of the 2025 season. The 2023 first-round pick is batting just .216 through 25 games in his first full season in Double-A.
Slow start sees Aidan Miller fall 14 spots in Baseball America's Top 100 rankings update
Baseball America recently released its Top 100 rankings update (subscription required), and Miller noticeably fell from his previous spot. The shortstop went from the No. 34 prospect to No. 48 due in part to "other players making steps up,” per Baseball America.
All hope isn’t lost for Miller. The 20-year-old is still adjusting to the level of competition after playing just five games in Double-A before 2025. In fact, Miller is still adjusting to professional baseball with only 147 games under his belt since being drafted.
Miller is batting .212 across 118 at-bats at the Double-A level. He has two doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI.
Between 117 games at the rookie, Single-A and High-A levels, Miller hit .270 with 31 doubles, seven triples, 11 home runs and 60 RBI. He was selected for the 2024 Futures Game and promoted to Double-A at the end of the year for his impressive season.
Despite his 14-spot fall in Baseball America’s latest rankings, Miller may have begun to figure things out with the Fightin Phils. Since April 20, Miller is hitting .260 and has three multi-hit games. He’s hitting .333 over his last three games, including a three-run home run on May 8.

The Phillies aren’t in a position to have to rush Miller through the minor leagues. Bryson Stott is having a solid season at second base, Trea Turner is signed through 2033 and Alec Bohm is heating up at the plate after a slow start to the season. Even if Miller was tearing up Double-A, there isn’t much room for him on the big league roster.
